WordPress data loss – Don’ts

You’d rather know what not to do first – it’ll save you so much time.

WordPress dashboard

> Don’t Trash content – it’ll be automatically deleted in 30 days. Solution: change its status to “Draft”
> Don’t Permanently Delete content. Solution: don’t “Trash” – and you won’t be able to “Delete”.
> Don’t update WordPress and plugins – it may delete some files. Solution: backup all your data first.
> Don’t install themes and plugins – they may harm your content. Solution: backup all your data first.

Hosting control panel

> Don’t change any hosting settings. Solution: email your Host or backup all your data first.
> Don’t change any domain settings – expect the unexpected. Solution: backup all your data first.
> Don’t move your files. Solution: always copy/paste files, never cut/paste or move them.
